Demonstratably false. It's fun and fashionable to hate lawyers, but the fact is, they perform an important and necessary service in this country: They help Americans receive justice when justice is due.
Obviously, you have no clue what important role the American justice system serves. Without trial lawyers, corporations would be able to roll right over any American they happen to screw. And the Americans that got screwed would have no recourse.
Like President Bush, you grossly exaggerate your case. President Bush tried to blame high medical costs on trial lawyers, in some kind of pathetic attempt to discredit John Edwards. Fortunately, it blew up in his face when Americans were presented with the truth: Less than *one half* of *one percent* of medical costs can be attributed to legal costs.
There is no doubt some unjustified lawsuits hurt some doctors. Fortunately, John Kerry and John Edwards have an excellent plan to make sure those cases *never even make it to court*. This is the correct solution for the problem.
President Bush's solution: Damage award caps. This is a bad idea because you just can't place a value on a person's health. If a doctor caused you to lose your kidneys, and you had to be on dialysis machine the rest of your life as a result, do you feel you should be limited to only $100,000 or $200,000 in damages?
Before you answer that question, ask yourself if you'd knowingly and willingly give up your kidneys for that amount of money. I doubt you would. Someone that gets screwed that badly *deserves* a big payoff. Damage award caps are a *bad idea*. The only reason Bush pushes that idea is because he panders to wealthy corporations, like HMO's and insurance companies.
We need a president on *our* side. The giant, rich mega-corps of the world *already* have plenty going for *their* side.
And as I've demonstrated above, you're grossly exaggerating how much it costs the American worker.
George W. Bush has lost more jobs than any other president in 75 years. His trickle-down economics policy isn't working (big surprise there). The jobs that have been gained back pay *much* less than the jobs lost. He's rewritten the rules on who is and isn't considered unemployed to make the unemployment situation look better than it is.
Sorry, but you just can't ignore reality. George W. Bush has made a mess of our economy, and it's still not recovering properly. It's because his policies just plain *don't work*. You can't wave away his complete and total incompetence by waging a campaign of fear. Enough of the, "The sky will fall if you elect Kerry!!!" nonsense already.
I know President Bush's record is *so bad* that you can't wage a positive campaign, but do try, will you? I'm sure you can find at least one or two things President Bush did right. Maybe.
Sorry, but it's conservatives who won't be satisfied until labor is so cheap that it's practically slavery. Liberals believe in things like minimum wage and worker's rights. It's the conservatives who want to go back to the days of child labor and 16 hour work days.
When Bush got elected, I expected precisely what we got: Bad economic policy leading to job losses, no raise in the minimum wage, dis- mantling of environmental protections, a widening of the gap between the rich and the poor, and out-of-control deficit spending.
