On Tue, 22 Feb 2005 15:07:03 -0600, "Poor Impulse Control" I don't know many diversity proponents that support illegal immigration and illegal immigrant labor, except for business owners that look to exploit cheap laborers for...

Me either, which is why affirmitive action, quotas, and other like systems need to be eliminated.

The problem with "diversity" isn't that there's something inherently wrong with any race, groupings of multiple races, etc. Diversity as a condition which occurs more or less by individual choice or chance is a good thing.

The problem with "diversity" is the fact that it is almost always put forward as a government sanctioned (and ultimately coercive) program that seeks to actively promote racial proportionality. It's the new code word for quotas and affirmative action, two 1970s era policies that have been largely discredited.

Focusing on diversity necessarily requires focusing on racial idenbreasty as a primary identifier and placing merit and other more practical attributes a distant second. The goal should be color-blindness, but as long as diveristy proponents keep the focus on racial idenbreasty, it's hard to get there.

By and large, I'd agree with your views. I think diversity is good, but more for public atbreastudes, public service...

Opposition to diversity is almost always delegitimized by proponents of diversity casting the opposition as racists, even when the criticisms of practical aspects of a mandated "diversity" process are counter productive (such as multi-lingualism, mbutt immigration, etc). By casting the racism card, diversity advocates are able to prevent discussions which might contradict diversity as a policy.

An excellent book which illustrates several examples of diversity run amok is "Coloring the News" by William McGowan.
