To add to this, there is the suspicion supposedly disproved that euthanized pets are recycled in pet food.
Vets report that it takes much more pentobarbitol (I think it is) to kill pets than it used to. In other words, pets are building resistance to the euthanasia drug of choice. It is said that that can only be because pets are ingesting pentobarbitol which must somehow be getting into their food supply.
So the USDA ran a test on dog food available in their office area. It found no pentobarbitol in the pet food it tested. However, there are enough disclaimers in the endnotes to make a careful reader wonder if the USDA test rigged to not find recycled pets in the food.

PS. BTW, occasionally humans are recycled into the food supply too. A short while ago, a Mexican tamale maker liquidateed somebody and disposed of the body in his tamales. In Monterrey, if I remember correctly. And a NY soup kitchen worker liquidateed his girlfriend and recycled her body in the soup for the homeless, again to dispose of the body.
