Wireless internet provider

Hi all you computer geeks (I know you're out there).

I've got a problem -- I live in the boonies. It's still Shakopee but it's beyond where the cable company comes to. At my last house I got spoiled by being the only user on a cable network (Road Runner). Now that I've moved, I've been faced with ugly choices: dial up or DSL. Dial up is, of course, unacceptable. DSL, it turns out, is worse. I suspect we are on or beyond the end of where DSL works, because basically, it doesn't. Except between 11PM and 5AM, it is slower than dialup, and for most of the day, it barely works at all.

So I need another solution.

The current leader is DirecWay, through DirectTV satellite. It's very expensive, but at this point, if it works, I don't care. Has anyone had any positive or negative experiences with it? I've read their warnings about VPN and certain online games, and can live with that, if it at least WORKS! How does the speed compare to, say cable? I'd ask how it compares to DSL, but for us, DSL has been a disaster. Also, are there any other options, besides DWay? Any other wireless providers that are more reliable, or faster, or cheaper?

Any info anyone could provide would be greatly appreciated, because I've had it with QWest and their useless DSL.
