*Snip wonderful explanation of why I *don't* want to be a doctor*
I have given this quite a bit of thought. In my own experience, it is the nurses who have been there, day in and day out when me and mine have been in the hospital. I remember the doctors as showing up periodically for a poke and a prod and then vanishing again, while the nurses stayed and provided the care and comfort that we all needed.
It is nursing I want to do, not doctoring.
My post provoked so many responses, I have found them all helpful. I am well aware that many in my family will have the same response that Earle did. I know I'm young and bright enough for medical school, however I don't want to be a doctor for all the reasons that linda-renee enumerated.
For once in my life though, I will take my time with this, try to be patient and work out the next year or so at my current job, while volunteering and obtaining sufficient funding to pursue nursing school.
Nursing School 293No such thing exists. The past three years should have disabused anyone who has money...
So, now I have 2 more questions for you all:
How did you swing nursing school? For those of you who left a career to take up nursing, how did you afford your home and life and school?
And second, what are the things you like most, and least, about nursing?
I guess I'm seeing myself working in a hospital, instead of in a doctor's office, clinic or nursing home type situation.
