If Medicare is not a senior issue, then I don't know what is:)
Of course it is a political issue because it has to be voted on by Congress. And AARP is a lobbying group for senior interests, or is supposed to be. But political as it is, Medicare affects seniors directly and so posts about the new bill, pro and con, are very on topic for a senior group.
Each of us has to figure out if the bill is a good idea, if it will benefit us or harm us. And we can do that only if we share information, since there is little indeed coming out of Washington about all the bill does to affect the future of health care in the U.S.
Will the new Medicare bill mean the end to Medicap supplemental plans? Will it mean the end to employer insurance? Will people be forced into HMOs of some sort to obtain any drug coverage under the bill? All of these are yet unanswered questions.
The bill was supported by most Republicans and not supported by most Democrats. So the Republicans will have to bear the brunt of criticism and answering questions about the implications of the legislation. I hope they are up to the task.
