P H What we're going through, Phoebe is virtually exactly what England went through after the war. It lost its economic dominance due to a war that essentially it couldn't pay for. The United States buttumed the ascendancy because its economic plant geared up and continued after the war until the mid-1980's when the rest of the world started catching up to us.

We dug our own grave by educating third world country students who now use that education to take our jobs away from us, helped by greedy American capitalists, who in the interests of making a quick buck, invested in those countries instead of here. China, using its vast population and drive of its people is now becoming a major player on the world stage. And we continue to spend ourselves into debt by supporting a lifestyle which we cannot support. And the Republicans tell us that things are just going peachy. Of course, we realize that these individuals really don't give a hoot for the country, just so long as they can continue to make a buck. The pity is they appeal to the shallow of thought and emotional dolts who don't have the financial resources to benefit, but are made to think they do. THAT is our great shame.
