Andy replies: Sometimes I don't HAVE much imagination. It seems to me that the government has a vested interest in advancing US Corporations, whether it owns stock in them or not. So, I don't see what will change. In fact, if the government were under pressure by the voters to maintain benefits, and that REQUIRED that some corporations would be profitable, it seems to me that there would be a heck of a lot less hostility toward business from 50% of the loyal voters...... Bad business environments would mean money out of THEIR pockets, so agressive anti-business policies might be tempered a little...

Exactly the same will happen if large groups of voters have their private accounts go broke because the government pbuttes restrictive covenants, EPA rules, higher taxes on corporations, etc.......

I like the "guaranteed" return that occurs after the government has confiscated a large share of my wages for 35 years.

We already have IRAs, Roth, and Keough accounts, available for private investment. A standard IRA has a $2000 reduction in taxable earnings ---- seems to me that is the same as a portion of SS taxes into private accounts would accomplish...

But then, my imagination is small...

Maybe that is what is needed ---- less imagination ....
